Cannot update computer, load Norton, etc

By ronald ·
Have a computer that had alot of virus's and infected files. I think that is a taken care of now, but I cannot load Norton, cannot do a Microsoft update, some thinks do not work when going to Symantec's site and things like that. I know it has something to do with the virus's that were on the machine. (about 1000 infected files with, trojans, W32's, etc.

What do I look for as to getting IExplorer working properly.

Have reloaded windows and even upgraded to 2000, that did not help any.

That's because you're still infected with viruses. What OS did you up-grade from? Did you re-format the hard disk first?

Upgraded from '98 to 2000. Ran every virus scan that I have and even the ones on-line. I can't find out what the problem is. I formated a hard drive and dumped all the contents off the old hard drive and reloaded the operating system. Still have problems.

yes, you are still infected. perhaps the virus is lurking in the system restore folders. was the old OS ME?
I'd take the hard drive out and install it as a second hard drive in a system with up to date antivirus and scan it there. I bet the infection will show up and you can clean it.
you've done so much else to it that i am in favor of the wipe and start over method also. but you can get it clean and save your needed files at least...
