    Canot display bmp Wallpaper

    Locked

I’m trying to make all users of my local machine have a standard wallpaper. I created a user, and copied this profile over the Default User profile.

My problem is that when a new user logs on it appears to work as things have changed, and in display properties, I can see the correct wallpaper is selected, however, it’s still displaying a blank blue screen! When clicking on the image, it shows it as blank instead of allowing me to reapply the wallpaper. I’ve heard of this happening with jpegs, (but usually you can reapply them) but these are bmps. How can I fix this? Its been driving me insane for 4 days now!

Before you copy the user profile into the default user create a custom scheme and save it as a new file.

Then when you create a new user install the scheme and away you go.

Alternatively, you could create a group policy on the local machine and require that bmp to be the desktop background.

BTW. This seems like a lot of work just to have a standard desktop background. Where is the benefit?

any chance it’s a permissions issue on the .bmp file?

      Hi

Is the bmp in a ‘normal’ folder on the C drive? As suggested above it may be a permissions problem. If the file is in one of the sub-folders off Documents and Settings, access will be restricted.

Try placing it in a new folder and see if that helps

      Good luck
