can't access notebook HDD

By zulander100 ·
I'm fighting with a Digital Laptop. On boot the BIOS disables HDD as it has invalid partition info. I have tried booting with win98 disk and running fdisk /mbr but it comes back with "requires update".
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Download the disk utility from the hard drive manufacturer, and run it.
I hope you have backed up the HDD previously.

If there is any data on the drive that is important you can use a laptop-to-IDE drive converter and hook up the drive as a slave on another machine. You should be able to then access the data and drag it to the c: drive and burn it to cd.

Good Luck

How old is the lap top? If its three to five years suspect the BIOS battery, sounds like its lost the HD info. Go into BIOS setup before the OS loads. Usual indicators are wrong time/date. If you ignore that it starts losing info on vital bits ofkit like the HD. Worth a check. Paul B
