Can't access server from W95 PC

By Tink56 ·
We have a Windows 2000 domain with Active Directory. I run WINS for a few older machines with W95 and W98.

In one subnet there were 6 W2K PCs, an LJ printer and 1 PC that ran W95. A server (S3) was located in the office. All PCs had mapped drives to the server, including the W95 PC (it has an old scanner hooked up to it).

We merged these people into our main office. I changed the IP information on the PCs and Server. The W95 PC is confounding me. I can double click on My Network Neighborhood and see all the machines on my network. I can map drives to all the servers--EXCEPT S3. It comes back saying it can't be found.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Did you set the server to native or Mixed mode?

in addition to answer 1, can you ping it, can you connect by ip ?
can the win98 map to S3 ? if not the serve might be configured to only accept secure connections.

Let me know the answers on those

I can ping the server from the PC.
I can ping the PC from the server.
No changes were made on the server or PC other than changing it's IP information to integrate it into the new subnet.

I rebooted the server. I rebooted the PC. Both can still ping each other.

At the PC, if I click on Network Neighborhood I can see all the servers on the network. For example, I can click on S1 and view the shared files. However, when I click on S3 I get the message: \\s3 is not accessible. The computer or sharename could not be found. Make sure typ typed it correctly and try again.

I can map a drive to any shared folder on S1. When I map a drive to a shared folder on S3 I get the message: F is not accessible. This folder was moved or removed.

And no, nothing has changed on the server.

I can even double click on the shortcut to the orignal drive mapping and get the same message as above.

Sorry it took so long to reply back. I ended up just rebuilding this PC. Reinstalled Windows 95, joined it to the domain and reinstalled the scanner software. Everything is just fine now. Go figure.
