Can't access website by domain name internally

By gr649 ·
Hi, we can access our website by using the IP address, but we can't with the domain name from within our organization. Everyone else on the web can see our website by using the domain name. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it. Thanks, Greg

Internal DNS

Do you have internal DNS A records pointing to that IP?

(I've got no idea how to do this, but check the config and docs for your server, whichever one it is.)

Internal DNS

Thanks for the idea. I will check into that as soon as I can. I am new on the job and have some other priorities today as we have a server shut-down going on after work today.

Create an internal DNS alias for www

by kmmartin In reply to Can't access website by d ...

I believe that I had the same problem. Internal to our domain, I could access our website using the IP address, but not the "www.domain.com" URL. External to our domain, the "www.domain.com" URL worked fine. Since all of our workstations and servers first addressed internal DNS servers before being forward to our ISP's DNS servers, I added an alias to our internal DNS pointing "www" to the internal address for the web server. Our users still see the "www.domain.com" in the address line of their browsers and not the IP address.
