Can't boot from hard drive

By JoeCee ·
I recently installed an extra hard drive into an older machine running windows 2000. When I installed the new hard drive, the computer selected the new drive (also has Win 2000) as the boot drive. I disabled the original hard drive in the device manager and now neither drive will boot. It is telling me that there is no page file on the original hard drive and it will not boot. How can I enable the original hard drive in the device manager when I cannot boot from the hard drive? PLEASE HELP!!

Can't boot from hard drive

Never install bootable disk as a slave one under w2k ! System will confuse between the two, and no one will boot after.

2 solutions :
- Re-install the 2 drives, and correct cache disk ;
- ghost your original drives, and install the TWO drives (yes, original and ghost !) in your computer. Boot, and correct.

and good luck

Can't boot from hard drive

Interesting problem. I am curious about a few things. Do you want to boot off the orginal drive again? if you have two installs of Win2K then you disabled the HD in the device mgr of only one of them. If it was booting from the new drive, and you would like to try booting from the first drive try usinf fdisk to change the active partition. i can't test this right now, but it might work. Or just remove the 2nd drive and see if it will boot from the 1st again. If you don't have any data you need on the 2nd drive just wipe it and then add it back in. Let me know as you try things and I will try to offer more advice.
