can't browse internet using IE on XP LAN

By tnkarma2004 ·
I run XP on DELL laptop. I was able to browse the net from IE in my office LAN and at home on broadband cable(using Motorola modem which supports ethernet & USB).Yesterday, I tried to configure Linksys wireless router at home. The wireless connection was excellent but unable to load page in IE without delay.Next, I did IPCONFIG ALL, IPCONFIG/FLUSHDNS, IPCONFIG /RELEASE, IPCONFIG /RENEW to no avail. So I remove the router & connect directly back to Motorola via ethernet, IE didn't load page anymore without delay.I repeated all the IPCONFIG commands but to no avail.USB Connection on Motorola modem works.Once switched to ethernet, it didnt.I noticed my DHCP,DNS,default gateway were all empty with the ethernet but there were some values when I used USB connection. My laptop is configured to use DHCP to auto-assign IP and DNS.Pls help.

IPCONFIG/RENEW gave an error when I tried with Motorola ethernet or Linksys wireless connectivity. IPCONFIG/RENEW works when I use Motorola USB.

The modem model is Motorola 5100. When I tried again this morning without making any changes, the ethernet connection works again. I'm baffled. Thanks for your reply.

I've seen Automatically Detect Settings option create terribly slow connection times on working LANs. Check to see if that is checked under TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS / CONNECTIONS (tab) / LAN SETTINGS (button) and try it once unchecked. I'm 99% sure it does not require a reboot.
