I have a small-ish Active Directory to which I migrated my area’s workstations several months ago. We use a Terminal Services box so that people can access a database application from offsite (the database is stored on a computer behind a firewall, and it cannot be directly accessed by a computer off campus). To simplify account management, I eventually joined this server to our domain.
Unfortunately, something is blocking password changes (among other things, but the password change is the biggest problem). Attempts to change domain account passwords from the TS box result in error 1351, suggesting that the box cannot find the domain or that it can’t read from the domain controller.
All workstations in the domain can do password changes without incident.
I suspect that this is a firewall issue. The TS server box (but not the domain controller) is housed in IT’s data vault, which is firewalled off from the rest of the university network with ports only opened as explicitly needed. Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to find the specific port(s) to request be opened to fix this problem (and, unfortunately, neither does anyone in IT apparently, as their suggestion did not work).
Does anyone know where I should start looking to get this issue resolved? A few users only access their domain accounts through this server, so it’s a bit of a problem for them in keeping their domain account password in sync with their Novell password.
