Can't change video display settings

By okippiko ·
I've made several upgrades to my PC such as:
Soyo SY-5EMA MOTHERBOARD;
AMD K6 500MHZ;
FLOPPY DRIVE;
POWER SUPPLY;
Windows 98

After all of these upgrades everything works fine except I can't change my display settings from 16 colors. My video card is an STB 128 AGP. I've tried reinstalling and reinserting this card but nothing seems to allow me to change the display settings. What can I do to correct this problem?
Thanks.
Len Piko

Visit
www.microsoft.com/hcl and verify if your display adapter is compatible with Win98. Otherwise visit the manufacturer web site and see if they have an updated driver over there

I suggest you read the following.

From what I can gather your card maybe be an OEM and some elemnts on your original motherboard were necessary.

Assuming there are no conflicts with the card (check Device Manager), I'd try to get updated drivers for the video card. It also wouldn't hurt for you to search sites for both vendors (video and mobo) - you might get lucky and find something from them that might help. My money is on the drivers if the card is installed properly.

Good luck.

My guess is that you allowed the install to run with the default vga driver (that is the correct thing to do). However, when you have completed your install of everything else on the system, you need to go back and install the appropriate driver that came on the CD that came with your video card, or download the latest driver from the web, and install that. Your video system is only as good as its driver.
