Can't contact certain servers

By jbox ·
I have a client who connects to the web ok, but even though her email is config'd ok, Outlook can't contact the mail servers. Loaded Norton AntiVirus, but it won't update - can't contact the server. It seems certain servers are being blocked. Removed ZoneLabs product from PC, found and removed Welchia worm. But still can't contact these servers. Any ideas.
Would appreciate your assistance.

Regards,
Justin

Can you ping the mail server by ip? Or by name?

If you can ping by ip, but not by name, then it's probably a DNS configuration issue. Look at the LMHOSTS file.

I would be concerned about Norton not updating. Several of today's viruses can hamper Windows viruscans. Find a DOS virus scan such as nod32 and run in it's Command Window

I suspected a virus - found Welchia and removed - but still had problems. We are going to rebuild the PC.

Make sure that you have Outlook configured correctly. You may have typed the address to the mail server correctly. Also, as suggested above, try to ping the Mail server.

Thanks for your advice. Already verified, and re-verified all the info in Outlook - also checked with the ISP website to cofirm config details. Thanks again
