I got a Winbook PII Celeron 750mhz with software mirrored hard drives, 192mb of RAM, 3com 3c905B-TX NIC, a Seagate 4/8 Gb tape drive and Windows 2000 Server. The client was first a Windows 98 then Windows 2000 professional notebook.
First, I connected two machines together with a cross-over cable. I began to copy large amounts of data from the first client to the server (the winbook). A little after the copying began the client returned an error message stating the network was busy and the copying ended. I could not ping the server from the workstation and visa versa.
There were no error messages logged in either “Event Viewer.” I tried swapping out the network cards, changed machines/operating systems, network cables and connected the machine to a hub with patch cables.
I even re-installed the server’s operating system twice (once to Win 2k AS and a second time to Win2k Server).
