    Can’t Delete a Folder

    Locked

    by dennis ·

I have a folder created and deleted by a user. The folder is under the user’s directory on a NTFS drive on the server. NT 4.0 SP5. The folder still shows up but is not accessible. I can’t take ownership, delete it, check properties, rename , etc. I have run Norton’s disk repair utilites and that did not help. Any ideas out there?

Try CACLS from the command prompt. I have had beter luck in this type of situation from the command line than from the GUI.

Simply type CACLS /? from the server console and you should be able to figure it out from there.

      Good Luck…..Jeremy

Search the registry for the name of the folder. When found, delete it. For some reasons, the OS flagged it as a system folder and thus couldn’t be deleted.

      Enjoy!

I had this happen before, It simply ended up being that a user was still connected to the directory. I disconnected the user, then I was able to delete them.

From Server Manager, check which user(s) is/are still connecting to that particular folder, then proprely you need to disconnect their access. Sometimes, you need to press ‘F5’ function key in order to refresh the directory view from Windows Explorer. I hope this can help you. Let me know, if you need any help.

I hope that, this is one of the BDC server. Try to do the re-synchronization from the PDC’s Server Manager to the entire domain or you can selectively select your this server to be synchronized. After all, check your Event Viewer from both PDC and BDC (the server which you’re working on). If this can’t help, properly you need to logon locally and rejoin back to the domain. Last ERD (Emergency Repair Disk) will be the last option for you to recover the SAM database. I hope this can help you. Letme know, if you need any help.
