Can't delete a virus infected file

By GJ2008 ·
Does anyone know how I can delete an infected file called twaintec.dll? I'm not able to delete this through McAfee AntiVirus software or through Explorer.

you did not mention your os version so can't tell you exactly. but try this:
boot into safe mode. see if you can delete now.
if no joy, make boot disk for your os. boot from that, find file and try delete.

Boot from the CD, navigate to the file and delete it. Since you boot from the CD, the file will not be in use.

This is from a known AdWare program.

If you want to uninstall, you can do so easily through the add/remove function in your control panel. You can access your control panel by going to:
1. Start (typically, the button in the bottom left of your screen)
2. Choose SETTINGS
3. Choose CONTROL PANEL
4. Choose ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
5. Select twain-tech
6. Click on ADD/REMOVE
In the absence of an entry in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS please use on of the following methods:

For Windows98 and WindowsXP users:

a) To permanently disable the software click "Start" and then "Run" and type the following command which unregisters the software: regsvr32 c:\windows\twaintec.dll "
b) To completely remove the software: reboot and then Find and Delete the file mxtarget.dll. For Windows2000, WindowsME and WindowsNT users:
a) To permanently disable the software click "Start" and then "Run" and type the following command which unregisters the software: "regsvr32 c:\winnt\twaintec.dll "
b) To completely remove the software: reboot and then Find and Delete the file twaintec.dll.

Unregister DLLs:

Unregister these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot:
systemroot+\system32\mxtarget.dll
systemroot+\system32\twaintec.dll
systemroot+\system\mxtarget.dll
systemroot+\system\twaintec.dll
systemroot+\twaintec.dll

If it was me, and it wouldent delete no matter what through regular windows. I would reboot and hold down F8 till the D.O.S. "Disk operating system" booted up of a list with safe mode. select it, then press the secondary mouse button over the start icon in windows, select search, and type out the file, extention included. when it "pops" up delete it form there, after it is deleted, close out of the explorer, reboot windows regularly, and do a virus scan, adware scan ect ect.. but make sure everyhting is in its prime, for example, everything is updated. If everyhting is updated, you can win most battles.
