Can't delete file, although...

By chrisss ·
If I try to delete any file in a certain folder on my notebook running windows 2000 pro (built 2195, SP1), windows tells me that it is not able to delete the file, because "The source file may be in use". But the file can't be in use because the system is freshly booted and the only program running is the explorer. Even if I boot in safe mode and no process (that I don't know) is running, the file can not be deleted.
The properties of the files and the folder show nothing "unusual" (like read-only).
The file is not a programm or anything special.

Does anyone have an idea how to delelte the file? Maybe there is some kind of "raw-delete" command, a startup mode or a special windows setting which might make the file deleteable...

Thank you in advance!!

Just use the: delete C:\****\*.*
If this doesnt work try to copy the folder to another location useing Xcopy to another location and then try to delete it

One more IMPORTANT thing:
I tried to change some enties in the registry which seemed to be related to the file, I want to delete, and it worked! Well, just for one second. I was stupid enough to change another entry and again it didn't work. I tried to redo the changes I made at the time the file was deleteable, but it doesn't work.

Did you check if the system(S)attribute is on the folder and files?the Dos prompt type attrib and foldername
Are you the owner of the file/folder?
Can you take ownership of the file/folder
It looks like you will need to ask your system admin to give you some rights

I suspect that you are not in the "Local Administrator" group. Logon as the local administrator (the domain will be the name of the computer at the ctrl-alt-dlt screen) You'll be able to delete anything from there. But this assumes that you have a completely NTFS hard drive. Dos deletes will not work if you do.
