can’t delete resource hogs

by kelanth . Updated 21 years, 6 months ago

I have recently noticed a slow down in my system performance. Applications and web pages were taking a long time to load and the ‘wait’ hourglass was blinking next to my cursor. I opened Task Manager and found 2 files taking up a lot of memory. They were called advss.exe and binlog.exe. Tried to ‘end process’ but they started up again moments later. I found both files in my WINIT folder. I was unable to delete them system said they were in use. I booted to a DOS disk and was able to delete the files but when I started Windows 2000 the files had some how regenerated. I updated Norton and ran a complete virus scan with no viruses found. I’ve also run ‘Spybot’ and ‘Ad-aware’ to no effect. I’ve run a system optimizer that was able to delete/disable the files but they still come back. A google search on the files gives no info. Any ideas?
