Can't Delete User Profile Directory

By rboyer ·
I have a User account that was deleted from the machine. The machine is connected through a peer to peer network. The account does not appear in User Manager, but the users directory is still in C:\winnt\profiles directory. How do I get rid of it?

Log on as the machine's local administrator, take ownership of the directory, then drag it to the recycle bin.

Good luck.

You should be able to just recreate the user account in the user manager, then remove home folder

You first have to take ownership of that profile on the file level (you need administrator rights to do that). Then you can delete it.

I had a same problem like that once but it was on a network not peer to peer. It was giving me errors access denied or in use by something even if I log in as an local admin. what I did was, disconnected the network cable, rebooted the PC than logon to the pc locally and I was able to delete it. couldn't figured it out why but it work for me. give it a shot
