Can't download anything

By jlmc11 ·
When I do a download, my XP system does the normal thing, it brings up the dialog, goes through the where to save, does the download, but doesn't download to PC. I do a search and search verifies that there was no download. I have tried various sites and still cannot download from any site except Windows Updates. It doesn't matter whether close box is checked or not. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Open Tools, Internet Options, Security, select Internet, then Custom Settings, Downloads and make sure File Downloads is enabled.

You may also have to alter the Security Settings on IE as well as this is most likely tour problem.

If you want to check the capability of your computer load Firefox and try with that Browser, it will work much better for your needs as well.

Col,

Thanks for the reminder to use Firefox! It sure did help in my situation. Because Vista and IE 7.0 won't let my download the Shockwave Player on my machine. But on Firefox everything works just fine. Thanks again. Keep up with the good reminders. Even though I would like to know what setting it is in IE though, because it can be a real pain!

Thanks

Karen

I am able to go to guest account and download from there. I have reset all my internet settings to default and still have the same problem with no downloads. I have checked every setting I can think of, to no avail. I have run various spyware programs including Spybot,Adaware,Spyware Doctor,TrendMicros free scan, and still have this problem. Thanks Hal9000 for your email, maybe there is something that has correpted my system. Got a lot of important things on my system that I would hate to loose, any suggestions as to what I should do?

Same problem

Yes, same problem - I try to download any type of file from IE or Firefox and it downloads as normal (as indicated by the status bar and the appearance of the file in the download location) but as soon as the download hits 100% the file is immediately deleted (not recycled) from the system.

I am, however, able to download from Google Chrome.
