cant fax

i can no longer fax a doucment from my scanner but i can scan a doucment and email it HP states that scanjet scanners -Micrsoft(R) Fax no longer supported under windows 98se and windows Me. I am a computer dummie and just learning but i think aiam being had Gateways says its HP problem and HP says it Gateways problem and I cant scan inssurance papers to be faxed so that i can receive pay wwhile off work from baack surgery. Any help wouldd be greatly appericated
