Can’t find dbgrid32.ocx

I was just putting on the finishing touches to a VB6 application (in Win XP) that uses the Microsoft Data Bound Grid Control (dbgrid32.ocx). Suddenly, I started getting error messages that properties for the control couldn’t be set, and the forms that used it couldn’t be loaded.

If I booted into Win 98 SE, I could run the app in Design Mode, but could not compile it because I did “not have the appropriate license” to use the control in Design Mode. Following instructions at Microsoft’s site, I ran their downloads, unregistered and deleted dbgrid32.ocx, and reinstalled VB6 — dbgrid32.ocx was nowhere to be found.

I have since reinstalled VB6 through SP6 several times in 98 SE, Win 2K, and XP; and dbgrid32.ocx just does not get installed.

I don’t want to have to redo this app from scratch using another grid control that I am not familiar with? Anybody have any ideas on how I can get dbgrid32.ocx installed and properly registered?

That did the trick. Actually just after posting the question, I reinstalled VB6 again in Win 98, and that time dbgrid32.ocx was installed, but I still got the “license” error.

I copied it to the System32 folder in XP and ran Regsvr32 again, and it worked fine (though previously it hadn’t), but when I tried the same thing in Win 2K, I continued to be “unlicensed.”

What finally did the job in Win 98 and 2K was the suggestion in the links you provided to merge vbctrls.reg from the VB6 installation CD. I’m back on track and can work w/ my app in all 3 OSes.
