By jimbo ·
We have 3 primary domain controllers on site NT, win2000 server and win2000 advance
Server
When workstation logs in has option of choosing which domain (drop down arrow) to
Login.there is no problem with NT neither win2000 server how ever
2000advance server do not show in drop down menu and if try to join the new workstation to advance 2000 error message appears as network path was not found
I can browse the advance server as workgroup but not directly log in to domain

There is no problem join workstation to other domain(nt,and 2000 server)

I have search q articles from Microsoft indicating problem with DNS
Advance server has a static ip
Server itself ping the gateway and dns with no problem, flushing dns and registering dns did not Help, using dynamic ip did not help
Try most of utility as far as ipconfig, nbtstat dns suffix does not show
I have added dns Suffix which shows with ipconfig but still can’t join workstation to domain

I’v noticed withstatic ip releasing ip from adaptor tells me there is no
No adaptors bound to TCP/IP are enabled for DHCP
From this server I have no problem browsing the other domain or browsing outside
World
Only protocol loaded are tcp/ip

Any one has anyidea?
Thanks

Are your 2000 and advanced 2000 servers in different domains? or are they dc's in the same domain? If same domain, then they should be setup with dns - active directory integrated. And would not show a second domain from workstations (same domain)
If they are in different domains, then you would need to have a seperate zone for this 2k advanced domain in the primary dns server.
This is a DNS problem no doubt, it's just a matter of figuring out where the problem resides. More info would help to be more specific.

Your Enterprise 2000 Server must belong to the same subnet. If it belongs to another subnet, you have to install a router to interface between the two subnets.

It is a DNS problem. Designate one server as your active directory integrated Dns and add the forwards to the outside dns servers. Then add the active directory server as the only DNS for everything on the inside, including itself. Then run Nslookupon to verify proper dns operation. I have seen in many case you will have to add the A "host" record manually. Then add your reverse ptr records. Learn nslookup inside and out, it is your friend.
