Cant load Windows

By beckford ·
I recently got given a computer, it was very
messed up so I have formatted the drive and attempted to load windows from my boot disc and a 98 wincows CD that i got with this new machine i am on. The old machine tells me that the OEMCD001 is missing i have found a driver, and have loaded the old machine with DOS 6.2 in order to get into it. My qestion is could you tell me what lines to write in autoexec.bat and config sys to make this machine recognise there is a CD in it. the lines I have written are in config.sys DEVICE=C:DOS\CDMKE.SYS /D:OEMCD001 AND IN AUTOEXEC.BAT LH C:DOS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CDMKE.SYS It has got further than when i did not have the lines however it is now telling me the drivers have not loaded or the IO board in not connected, can you assist

Thanks Peter beckford

Your CONFIG.SYS file, (booting from floppy)

DEVICE=A:\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=A:\CDMKE.SYS /D:OEMCD001

Your AUTOEXEC.BAT
MSCDEX /D:OEMCD001

Please see that the /D switch in CONFIG.SYS file should contain the same name as the in MSCDEX line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. You could even put your name on it, actually.

Note, that since you have formatted your harddrive, any files in your harddrive is deleted / erased. Therefore having a good bootable WINDOWS 98 bootdisk is the first priority.

Hopeit helps.

Ask a friend of your to build you a boot disk from Windows 98 and that's it.

If it doesn't work please follow the e-mail I sent you.

Good luck,
@lberto

replace /D:CDMKE.SYS with /D:OEMCD001. Trust me, it works. then when you are in dos, the cd-rom drive is the D drive.
