– Using Exchange 5.5 on an NT 4 system.
– Local network, all on a single subnet
– Network is composit of Novell and NT
– Primary protocol is IPX for Novell login and drive mapping
– Clients are using Outlook 2000 on Win98 SE systems.
Problem 1: Several users are not able to open outlook, at all. While other users have no problems and can receive and send e-mail.
Problem 2: I can ping the exchange server from any workstation. But I CANNOT ping the name of the exchange server ‘EXCHANGE’.We are not using WINS on our network but have a DNS server setup for internal as well as external usage.
Steps tried:
1. remove and re-install Outlook 2000
2. Removed network protocols and re-installed
3. Removed DNS settings and added lmhostswith needed ip to name resolution.
After doing any or all of these steps, from the problem systems, I cannot ping the name EXCHANGE. From the work stations that can use e-mail, I can ping EXCHANGE.
What I would like do try, is to change the binding order so that TCP/IP is at the top. But currently IPX is at the top. I am not certain how to modify this.
Are there any other steps that may need to be tried?
