When I try to log on to my IM virtual server, I get this message: “The person logged on to this computer does not have permission to use the specified e-mail address.”
Of course, I’m the person logged on. I’ve read “Set up an instant messaging server with Exchange 2000” at TechRepublic, and Q266643 at MS, and “The Exchange 2000 Server Instant Messaging Service” at MSExchange.org. If I left off a step, I’m sure not seeing what it is.
I’ve got a single Exchange SP1 server. I installed IM when I built the server (about 18 months ago), and I’m now ready to activate IM. I created a virtual IIS site named “Messenger”. I created an _RVP SRV record for “messenger”. I create an RVP virtual server in Exchange named “IM Home Server” andpointed it to the “Messenger” virtual site (port 80). I enabled my AD account for Instant Messaging, and selected “Messenger” and “IM Home Server”. I installed the Exchange version of the MSN client. As far as I can tell, that’s all there is to it. But it won’t sign me on. Nothing in the logs…just the “Exchange Instant Messaging Sign in Failure” message that I don’t have permission to use my own account.
Why do I get this error and how can I correct it? Thanks.
