    Can’t log on to NT server

    I have a client that is running windows 98 and cannot connect to her NT server. One day the power company disconnected the power and they neglected to shut down the server. All of the client computers were shutdown but not the server. after the power came back on she could not log into the server. The server has since been rebooted a number of times, as has all the clients. I am new to the field and i only have Windows 2000 Exp. Could some please help me out here as i am extremely puzzled.

      Is there any error message? What reason is any message giving that it is not able to connect to the server?
      1. Perhaps the particular user account has become corrupt, you may have to a) edit her account b) create new account and test if she can logon with the new one.
      2. Is the error, network related? Can the workstation receive a DHCP ip address, or is a static ip used, or is another protocol being used? Could some network component have been damaged when the power was shut down?

      Can you give more information? I would like to help, but need more info.

      First you remove the network adaptor form the netwrok settings. Note down the IP if static.
      Reboot the m/c and again installed the Network adaptor and try to connect.
      It may solve your problem

      Can anyone (administrator)log onto the sever itself?
      Can any of the other clients log on to the server?
      If so can she log onto the server at using another clients computer?
      If not does the server have her account locked?
      If not locked check hardware cables, NIC’s hubs, and ports.

      If nobody can logon to the server then it indicates a centralized problem. Either the server itself or something common to the server and every client unable to access it. Restart all the hubs and switches, then the server and finally one of the clients.

      Barring that I’m going to say its either the server NIC or the server networking software…try blowing it all away and reinstalling it. As always with NT, after installing any software from the CD (or the i386 folder) reapply the latest service pack and reboot once more.
