Can't log onto my laptop, password doesn't work

By mitchellkent ·
I try to logon onto my laptop that runs Windows Vista Home Premium. I put in the correct password that has worked ever since I set it, but it doesn't work. I am not sure if my laptop has been hacked or not. I need to know how to log on without rebooting the computer.

Call Microsoft

Sorry, we cannot help you with this.
If you can't log on, you can't log on. And why the requirement for doing this without rebooting? What difference would that make?

We, the members of TechRepublic - A Resource for IT Professionals, will not assist anyone in the recovery/removal of lost passwords. You may have a legitimate reason to recover/remove a password. However, we cannot verify your motives and will therefore not assist anyone in what may be an attempt at gaining unauthorized access to a computer system. Due to the open nature of this forum, any assistance given to help circumvent security measures, even for legitimate purposes, would be available for unscrupulous individuals to use for illegitimate purposes. This is a risk that we, the members of TechRepublic, will not take. Please do not ask questions of this nature on TechRepublic.

If you have a legitimate need to circumvent a password scheme, please contact the vendor for the software / hardware and request their assistance. E.g. Windows XP password recovery/removal issues should be taken up with Microsoft's technical support, Phoenix BIOS password recovery/removal issues should be taken up with Phoenix Technologies, hard drive password recovery/removal should be taken up with the manufacturer of the hard drive, etc...

You're screwed

Vista has no repair install so; if you really own it, slap in the restore disks and embrace the suck if you don't have a back up of your data or give it back to who you stole it from and hope they don't beat the s*** out of you.

This all sounds slightly odd to me ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Can't log onto my laptop, ...

This criteria that you want to know how to log on without rebooting suggests to me that you know if you reboot, you'll encounter ANOTHER password level - which at present while it's powered up, it is sitting on the inside of.

Sounds to me like you're sitting with a powered-on laptop that has already passed the boot password but now you're stuck at the log on password.

Sounds to me like the laptop was stolen while it was powered-up, beyond the boot password stage.

Sounds to me like you know if you reboot it you are totally stuffed in the selling-on or using of stolen goods department.

IMHO that's what it sounds like to me, and if it happens to be a ROCK Xtreme with a custom black paint job and a little ladybird above the screen on the top left of the fascia - HA! HA! HA! :^0

You will need to RE-BOOT for a fix..................

You will need SPOTMAU for this, but it will cost you.
