Can't Logon to Windows Server 2003 domain

By silvercord ·
I'm using a notebook with XP Professional. For unknown reason I can't join our domain.

I can ping the server but the server can't ping my notebook PC.

How should I resolve this?

This technical forum would provide an answer much more readily:

This is a tech. problem, in search of a solution.

It properly belongs in "Technical Q&A," not in "Discussions."

Please re-post there.

Thank you.

??s and Possible Fixes

1) Are you sure you have Windows XP Pro? I once had our computer supplier send us a Windows XP Home version by mistake and Windows XP Home is not capable of joining a domain.
2) Is this Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2? While I have never heard of Service Pack 2 blocking you from joining the domain it does block other computer from pinging it, connecting through remote desktop, and other things. If it does have Service Pack 2 I would suggest turning of the Firewall completely and trying again to see if that fixes the problem.
3) Are you joining the computer to the Domain with a User that has the Rights to add computer accounts to the Domain?
4) Is the computer on the same IP subnet as the server?
5) Is the computer and server separated by a router on the network?
