Are you using the native compressed folders utility within XP or are using a 3rd party archive utility such as WinZip?

The windows utility can not handle all zip formats, (especially some of the newest and most efficient)

If you are using the windows one, I suggest you go to and get a proper utility for managing zip archives. (there are many others, some better, some worse, I just happen to use the winzip myself, so I tend to suggest it first.)

First off, while Tech Republic hosts this forum, it is not typically monitored and answered by TR staff members.

For specific answers to issues with TR content, you may need to use the "Help" link at the bottom of most TR pages.

I checked my TR archive, and located the download you are referring to. It opened up and extracted in the native Windows File manager archive extractor.

How big was the file you downloaded?

It should be 196KB.

If it is a different size, you may not have the entire file.

From time to time, TR does have problems with files on their server and may just need to restore the file.

Maybe the zip file is corrupt, you may try Advanced Zip Repair at This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Zip archives.
