Can't Open Tech Republic PDF's

By dallen ·
There are many times when I want to download the PDF version of the articles Tech Republic sends out, but lately it's been failing. I can't seem to open or save any PDF files from Tech Republic. I don't think it's anything I'm doing wrong and it does it to me on more than one computer. At first I thought maybe it was a problem with my Adobe Acrobat software, but I have version 6 on one machine and 7 on the other and they both fail.

It's probably the firewall protection. Try to turn off the firewall and let's see if working the download. But turning off the firewall is not the solution. For protecting you, the firewall must be enabled. So go to firewall settings and add the Techrepublic?s address on exception list.

I don't run any software based firewalls on either machine. I run a Sonicwall TZ170 firewall if front of my network. I can't turn it off. Is there a certain port that needs to be open? This would be highly unusual if there was.

Depending on how long you have been experiencing this, you may want to check out some of the discussion threads. We were given a heads up that TR was doing some maintenance to the system and we have all experienced problems logging in, reading discussions, replying to comments, etc.

The PDF download may also be related.

This problem has been happening for the past several weeks. I don't think it's a maintenance issue.

Try holding down Ctrl when you click on the Download button. I was having the same trouble and this works for me.

When this problem happens, it happens on any machine I try it on. I'm going to assume that TechRepublic was having some issues, because lately the problem seems to have cleared up.
