Can't Ping the gateway

By NyanebaE ·
All machines on my network (OS: Win 2000, NT, Win 95/9 except one, can access the internet. This machine sees all the other machines on the LAN, but cannot even ping the gateway. I have checked and re-checked the configurations and everything seems to be okay. Any help?

have you tried to ping 127.0.0.1 if that works you do have tcp/ip installed correctly.
if you use a proxy make sure its settings are in internet exploder (oops, explorer) you did not say what os this machine is running...do you use dns, wins? verify their configs are correct as well. post a comment stating what os you are running.

The tcp/ip is installed correctly. (Can ping 127.0.0.1) We don't use proxy. The machine is running win 98. The dns settings are all correct.

Check that the machine does not have a LMHOST file or HOST file. Is it running DHCP? If so has renewed it lease? Is the Default Gateway defined in your DHCP Scope options. Can you do a traceroute to the gateway or another machine on the LAN. Compare traceroutes with bad machine vs a good machine. Hope this helps.
