Can’t power-off with USB modem installed

by komp . Updated 25 years ago

Hi,

I recently bought a Creative ModemBlaster USB modem to replace my old serial counterpart. However, after I installed the modem, my system will no longer power off until I unplug the USB cable from the modem. When I issued a shutdown command from Win98 or even push the power button from the BIOS screen, the system’s power LED (along with the fan) will go off for about 1 second, then come back on (with the fan humming) for another second, then off again. This off/on cycle will go on forever until I pull out the USB cable from the back of the modem. I have disable all the power management features from the CMOS setup, but didn’t help. I have also contacted tech support, but of course, they never cared.

My question is: does anybody with a USB modem and an ATX power supply have similar experience, and is there any way to remedy the problem? Any comment or suggestion is welcome. Thanks.

Rgds,
Kom
