Cant print from an XP machine to a shared printer on a 2000 machine

By kacey_godwin ·
I am having trouble printing to an hp laserjet p6 printer that is shared through a windows 2000 computer. Both computers are on the same domain. Printer and file sharing is enabled on both machines. When i go to Add Printer i can find the printer and connect to it, but even after this i can not print to it. I have the newest drivers for the printer on both PC's. Any idea what could be wrong?

Re: Cant print from an XP machine to a shared printer on a 2000 machine

How is you printer connected: usb or networked?
If by usb then on your win2000 mark your hdd as "share", then from your winxp computer go into the add printer section and select add printer, next you will be faced with a page with "usb" or "network", select usb. the computer will search for the usb printer and add on the right port(s). If your printer is networked do the same as above but select "network" in the add printer section page. Hope this helps you. Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.

Dear Kacey,

Make sure you can print from the pc where its connected,
tcp/ip protocal & file and print sharing is enabled on both,
and last print spooler service is running on both,
check whether job comes to the logical printer in 2000 machine..

(you need to access 2000 system if all fails
and reconnect printer..
some times session is required in between two systems to print across! )

This must do...!

Regards,
