can,t print to printer from cmd prompt

I have a pc running WinXp Proff. and another running win98 in a common networked environment I have a dot matrix printer attached to the machine running 98′ i have shared the same.
The problem is that i have some programs running on both the machines that support DOS mode printing which is fast, but i cannot succesfully print from the XP machine, even from the command line interface “no error messages” the cursor jumps to the prompt again.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
