can,t print to printer from cmd prompt

By Shiv ·
I have a pc running WinXp Proff. and another running win98 in a common networked environment I have a dot matrix printer attached to the machine running 98' i have shared the same.
The problem is that i have some programs running on both the machines that support DOS mode printing which is fast, but i cannot succesfully print from the XP machine, even from the command line interface "no error messages" the cursor jumps to the prompt again.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Need more info pls do not hesitate to ask.

Regards

Shiva

Hi,
For DOS application, before launch the application type this command in command prompt:
"net use lpt1: \\ComputerName\SharePrinterName".
For multi user enviroment make a batch file with this command and make shortcuts for users.
If you want to change this mapping, use:
"net use lpt1: /delete" and map a different network printer.
You must be carefuly with users which use more than one computer. If they don't delete this mapping and work on a computer with local printer attached, the print jobs and local printer will be blocked/redirected.

Hi,

With the above answer I think now you can print through the prompt. For printing through other programs create a new printer through Control Panel and set it to the shared printer.
