Cant Save a current Template as new doc

I created a template to use as an empty data entry form. When I fill it in and do save as, I donot get the option to save as a .doc !! It will only let me save it as a new template. Any ideas?

A template cannot be saved as another type. Save it as a template and then create a document based on it to be saved as a document.
When you open it using File>New, notice the heck box for Template or document. Amke sure document is checked.

I concur with the first answer; however, if you falied to save your template in the proper templates directory yours will not appear. You can simply place a shortcut to the template on your desktop. Double clicking the shortcut to the template icon will cause word to launch a fresh word document using your template.
