Can't Save an Office file from XP Home to Win98

By jactionone ·
Can?t save an Excel, or any Office Document, file as 'save as' from a XP home system onto a system with Windows 98; I get the error message: the folder may be located in an unavailable volume or protected with a password and it?s not password protected and it is set as archive. How can I get the XP system to be able to re-name the file as save as? I can save as from one of the other systems which also have Win 98 in it to the other Win 98 but not from the XP home to the Win98.

xp needs to authenticate different from win98. you need to create an user accunt on the win98 box with identical name and password as you use to login on the xp box. or vice versa. if you don't know what your password is because you login automatically, that means your password is blank.
or, use the Network Wizard (XP Control Panel) to setup your home network and create an installation disk to take over the win98 box to set up the necessary accounts and stuff.
or use the Transfer Settings Wizard in XP if you are trying to do this with Direct Cable Connect
