Can’t Save Window Size or Position in Windows 7

    Locked

    by dhamilt01 ·

I can’t believe this! Just installed Windows 7. Setup my 3 working folder windows and pressed shift and clicked on Close button to save their size and position like I have done for years with Vista, XP etc. When I reopen a window, it is in the size and position of the last window I closed. Windows 7 doesn’t allow you to save the size and position of multiple windows.

How did this utter disaster get past all the “famous” beta testing?

3 year old basic clone mid-tower desktop. Used it for XP Prof. Formatted C: for Vista Ultimate 2 years ago. Now Windows 7. I’m finding all kinds of things that worked in Vista BROKEN in Wimdows 7. That’s what ya get when all they consentrate on is bells and whistles and not fixing the bugs that have been there since Windows 95.

This window bug should have stopped beta going to production. Found lots of other sites also crying foul on this issue but Microsoft has no solution … yet.

Window Size Works in Win 7 for Max

I apologize if someone else has already noted this. I’ve been looking for a solution for over an hour, and discovered this accidentally by trying things.

Win 7 will remember the size of the window (well one size…MAXIMIZED). While it is still an issue, this works for me b/c I’m usually stretching the windows to the edges anyway. Max is more than satisfactory for now.

Do you use an app like CCleaner?

If the window size and location cache gets wiped, the positions will be forgotten.

I agree. The previous answer was a bit odd.

          CCleaner

Yeah, I use CCleaner regulary to keep the registry junk to a minimum.

But the point of my first post is Microsoft radically broke a window positioning system used since way back when and left the poor user without a workaround to temporarily do what they could before until they fix Windows 7. I know the SP1 patch coming next year won’t fix the problem and maybe even Windows 8 won’t either.

I’m sure it’s a simple code fix. Too bad they can’t be bothered.

Didn’t say a solution, read the posts to your questions.

It was an observation. I noted that it was still an issue.

          Best of luck to you.
