Cant see all the Ram

By Chester Peterson ·
I have a AMD 166 PC here and no matter how much RAM I put in the machine it always says it has 32Mb even though I try 64Mb and 128Mb.
The machine only has one slot for SDRAM and 4 slots for EDORAM. I didnt try it with EDO.

Cant see all the Ram

For an older mother board like this you'll need to find PC66 ram. If installing PC100 or PC133 it will only read the first 32 MB.
I ran into this problem when the PC100 memory first came out. If you're lucky you may have a jumper setting on the mother board to change from 66 to 100.

Cant see all the Ram

I've seen a few of these older motherboards that had a 32MB limit on SDRAM.

I have one myself that has 2 DIMM sockets that max out at 32MB each. And, only work with older double-sided PC-66 modules.

Many of these early DIMM motherboards would accept more DIMM memory if you purchased EDO DIMMs.

More common, is accepting more SIMM EDO ram than DIMM SDRAM.

Also, there are numerous limits on having both types of RAM installed.

See if you can track down the Motherboard manufacture. Agood resource is www.motherboards.org
If you are lucky, the board mfg is still in business, and has a BIOS upgrade that will fix the problem.

The only time that I have not been able to get the information that I needed from the links motherboards.org provides is in the case of "OEM" mother boards.
For OEM motherboard support, you need to identify who made the original PC that the board was in.
