Can't see computers on my network

By inyampe ·
Good morn,Men I have a small prob,I network 3 pc for a neigbour last night.But I can't view any pc on the entire network.When I try searching for computer on the network I can't find any.I did a crossover cable used it on two pc, still they can't see themselfs.
The pc already had a LAN card installed on it.The hub I used is a 10BaseT 8 port ethernet hub.I ping 127.0.0.1 on the pcs and the reply well.
One more thing,if i connect the cat 5 cable from the LAN card to the hub,the led indicator onthe hub that is suppose to come on did not come on and the LAN card has no LED indicator on it.but if I power on the hub The BNC led indicator which is red is permanently on.The OS on the Pcsis windows 98.
I need help urgently.
Thanks.

Can't see computers on my network

Hi,
I extarcted three things from the information which you have provided.
(1) If you want to access computers by name or if you want see computers in network neigbourhood you have to install netbeui protocol for that.
(2)If you have doubt about the NIC(Network Interface Card) You can view it through right My Computer -> properties -> deivce
you can verify the card is working or not from here if there is escelemation mark(!) on net card that mean your NIC is not installed properly. If itis showing the mark than first try to get the info. about card ( vendor, Driver, IRQ) and Install the proper driver for it.
(3)If i go by your lines i want to clear one thing without poweron the HUB cannot work. If I presume that there is poweron and leds are not coming up than try to get two terminators of 50 ohms and one T connector put the T connector on BNC connector than put terminators on kboth ends of T connectors.

With
Kind regards
Abhinav

You could try installing new network cards and using tcp/ip, if for no other reason than to possibly share an internet connection somewhere down the road, and also to put all of the computers in a workgroup then you can activate file and print sharing, you could also try this first with the old cards as well. Just remember all computers must be in the same work group and each must have a private Ip, such as 192.168.100.1, changing the 4th octet as you go along, and also put all of them in a subnet of 255.255.255.0. Another option would also be to replace your hub with a router and connect your internet connection such as Roadrunner to that and then use Dhcp where the router would automaticlly assign ip's to your network. Hope this helps. Dean

The phycicale connections

BNC Connections
< =Terminator
T =T connector
-- =the coax type wire
<------T-------T--------T------>
PC PC PC

If you are using BNC And Base 10 coax cable then You Need to terminate both ends of the wire for it to work

If not then I've read the message wrong
