Can’t shut down IBM Thinkpad 600e

When I try to shut down my IBM Thinkpad 600e running windows 2000 it gets as far as going to the final black screen but will not switch off completely. The only way to switch it off completely is to use the on/off button. Any ideas?

If your bios is acpi enabled try this Go into the control panel, Open up the power options, click on advanced, & put the “when I press the power button”option on power off. If your bios is not acpi, try shutting the system down with nothing but the os running. Programs that are loaded could be getting hung up when 2000 tries to release them. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help, I eventually managed to fix the problem by installing the latest bios off of the IBM website, now if I could just get the infrared port to work……
