Can’t use my 250GB Western Digital Passport

Hi,

Please help me. I tried to plug my 250GB WD Passport into my machine running in XP Professional, but the OS asks for a driver. I can’t find the drive in My Computer and when I visited the Device Manager, it tagged as External HDD with “?” icon. I tought this device is plug and play and doesn’t need a driver. Please help me on how to solve this.

Disconnect the drive

from the pc and reboot, with the drive powered off connect the usb connector and then power up the drive.

It should now connect and work.

Thank you very much. But this drive dont have power. it is USB Powered. Anyway, I will try your suggestions. Thanks anyway.

Lets go this way, Has the drive ever worked?

Web results indicate that this is just a plug and play drive and you should need to do nothing more than plug it in.

So has it worked before?

Yes, it is good with my laptop running on Vista. But with my desktop running on XP is not. I read one article that maybe it is an issue with the USB power, is it possible? But all flash disks are working with that USB port.
