Capture a HP Jetdirect Device to LPT1

By it bloke ·
A software package used in my workplace (which runs Win95 & Win98 clients) requires printers to be local. However, all devices are networked and, in some cases, are accessed directly via their IP address. Capturing shared printers is straightforwardbut can anybody please let me know if it is possible to capture a JetDirect device to a local port ?!

This procedure enables a printer to be installed only once on a machine, allowing all users access without having to install the printer for each user. It also uses a local port for a networked printer.

1. Open Printer folder ( In Control Panel or My Computer)
2. Click Add Printer to start Printer Wizard.
3. Choose My Computer
4. Click Next
5. Click Add Port
6. Choose Local port
7. Click New Port
8. Enter the UNC path for the Network Printer you want. Example (\\%machinename%\sharename) and click OK
9. Click Close (You should see the UNC path as a new port choice)
10. Click Next
11. Add the correct printer and drivers (Same type as the network printer)
12. Click Next
13. Name the printer. Put "UA_" in front of name for "Universal Access."
14. Click Next
15. Choose DO NOT share printer
16. Click Next
17. Print test page and click Finish
