That ad would be unacceptable in today's PC climate

I think its its over the top advertising for a very ugly little car. Back in the day though, you could get away with it. Today, you know someone would be offended and sue.

Different era

Even the American automakers had similar ads, if I remember correctly.

I remember checking the Subaru out based on that ad. When I tried to sit inside it, I realized why the salesman had looked at me funny.

Kinda small

for your taller frame, he did not offer a sunroof so as not to kink your neck?

That

has a little class, style, and imagination to it. Unlike the crass visuals that use sex to sell these days.

Aw, c'mon.

You gonna start cradling me in the softness of your bucket seat and surround me with the lushness of your interior?

It isn't visual but it sure is blatant. Prince wishes he'd seen this ad before he wrote 'Sugar Walls' for Sheena Easton.

That was my thought

Ugly.

The car, not the ad. The ad is somewhat outdated, but manufacturers still use sex to sell cars. They also still set outlandish expectations:

"Lead her to the open road. This is where the Subaru GL Coupe wants to be", although most driving is done close to home.

Professional advertising executive in closed publication; don't try this at home.

Like they say

it is not about the equipment, it is what you do with it that counts.
