I’ve got a Sony VAIO picture book PCG-C1VE (European model )running Windows 2000, and a Sony VAIO CD-RW PCGA-CDRW52. The Sony came pre-installed with Windows ME, and everything worked, but the performance and reliablility was terrible, so I installed 2k. I have got all the integrated devices working with US drivers, but I haven’t put the US bios update on as apparently the motherboards are different.
Anyway, when I insert the interface card for the CD-RW 2k just comes up with the following message:
“The device “Ricoh R / RL / RT / RC 5C475 (II) or compatible CardBus Controller” has detected a CardBus controller in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not currently configured to allow the CardBus controller to be run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently only accept 16-bit (R2) PC cards in this controller.”
I phoned Sony and they basically had no idea, thought that it might be a BIOS update, but I’m not sure. The CardBus controller is a Ricoh RL5C475, atleast that’s what it came up in the device listings for ME. I’ve looked around for maybe another driver for 2k, but can’t find one. Any ideas? Cheers.
