Career Advice

By ITprof ·
Hi Professionals,

I am working for a medium sized company with 400 employees.I am doing .NET Web Development ,Exchange administration,Firewall administration ,Anti-virus administration.I have a B.S in Computers and working for the last 4 years with the same company .

I am getting the feeling that iam not fully focussed on one single
area. Its like jack of all and master of none.Iam totally confused which field I should choose among Web Development ,Exchange Admin and Security admin/analyst.

I am leaning towards Security career and thinking of doing Security+ cert and CISSP later .But I dont have a Security knowledge other than firewall administration .

Is Security career better than Software/web Development or Exchange Admin .?

Is it possible for me to get an IT Manager Position since I have exp with different
technologies?

Can you please advice me which direction to go .

Thankyou

I would definitely lean to the field that you feel is the most interesting/most challenging.

I wouldn't force myself to learn a particular skill for my career if I'd never pursue it personally. Being a jack of trades, you definitely could be a IT manager as long as your personality isn't haywire.. :)

If you are looking at what pays better per field then perhaps you should do some job searches based on each field and find some salary sites that filter based on certs. My instinct tells me that IT Security knowledge is always in demand as more regulation is introduced.
