Career Change from Accounting to IT

By bwimpsett1983 ·
I am currently an unemployed accountant. However, I am 25 and recently graduated college with a BS in Accounting. I have been looking into getting certs like the MCSE or CCNA.

I am not completely sure what area of technology I want to go into, but I am interesting in IT Security or Software Development. What would be the best way to initiate my career change? Should I go back to school and get a degree in computer science?

I preferably want to get certs do some internships, then go back part time for my Masters.

If you want to go the IT Security route definitely

Sofware development, there's a possibility of starting in as a domain expert. Generally the guys who do software for accountants, employ accountants to help them get it right.

If you get and get the lie of the land maybe you can move sideways. Technical author, PM, Business Analyst. Pick up coding if you want with on the job and part time schooling.

Don't forget, you'll become less valuable as an accountant as you go along, if you don't keep up with legislation, a bit like IT in that respect.

Best of luck
