Career:Is it good to shift from Proj Manager to Infrastructure Manager?

By stakuri ·
Hi, I have over 12.6 years in IT/SDLC and have been working as a Project Manager for the past 4 years and I've some experience in Operations Management of ITIL framework(Change/Release/Incident Management)as a Project Manager. I've recently done ITIL Foundation certification thinking that I would move into "Service Delivery Manager" role eventually. But, now I'm getting some Infrastructure Manager offers and am not able to decide which way to go. I don't have much experience in Infrastructure Management except that I was involved in one of UNIX server consolidation projects at my previous shop. At the same time I don't have much experience as SDM too but have experience in Change/Incident management and I was thinking to get into SDM role gradually. Now, since I"m getting Infrastructure Manager positions,I'm unable to decide as which option is the best option for me? What is the future of Infrastructure Management and Service Delivery Management? I know for SDM, there will be people management, client interaction and lot of other responsibilities relating to Service Delivery etc. But, I'm not sure about the career advancement in Infrastructure Management hierarchy. Can some one please share your thoughts and guide me as what would be best for me ? If someone can share with me pros and cons of Delivery Manager vs IT Manager(from Infrastructure Manager) that would be really great too.

Many Thanks in adv,
