Security at work

by lrbotch In reply to Careful the Clown

It never ceases to amaze me how companies maintain their databases and internet access on the same computers...I read all the time how companies lose time and money from employees accessing unauthorized websites, or how their computers have been compromised because of spyware or malicious emails...I work at a govt agency and recently completed a briefing (e-learning type) and one area that was addressed was what sites were acceptable to access....one that they said was appropriate was tech forums...seems to me that most tech forums are moderated and are visited by some of the most computer savvy people in the web arena...I would think that logging on to a forum would automatically compromise your workstation if someone wanted to "follow you"...is that so?

Also, I think that a govt employee should use their own laptop to access the web and they should never be allowed to access the web from a workstation that is accessing the databases....****, the govt does enough data mining, they are probably (or not, ha) mining each other's agencies...
