Cat 6 cable

By California Dead Head ·
If you upgrade to cat 6 cable do you need to change your NIC's and switches? If so, what type of connector does cat 6 use? (not the RJ-45 like cat 5)??

Cat 6 cable

Cat 6 cabling does not require any special NICs, switches, hubs, or or any other network device.

It still uses RJ-45 connectors just like Cat 5. However, connectors designed for Cat 6 are designed to more exacting standards (which means they are more expensive).

For more info on Cat 6, check out the FAQ page at the TIA website (http://www.tiaonline.org/standards/category6/)

Hope this helps.
