Okay we installed a Cisco 6509 chassis switch about six months ago. We segmented our network into 10 VLANs and all connectivity and communications have been functioning well. Most of our sites are connected back to the chassis via a Catalyst 3548xl fiber link. On all of the outlying sites that connect through the 3548xl switches they can initiate a RIS session with our Windows 2000 RIS server, however, anything plugged directly into a blade( the blades are 3548xl inline powered blades) that is in the 6509 itself cannot RIS. My first thought was that portfast was not turned on but that was not it. I also tried changing to different VLANs on the blades but that produced no results as well. For those who are not very familiar with Win2kRIS there are really only two things that it does at first 1. Broadcast for an IP address 2. Initiate a tftp session. I am unable to get past that first step. No DHCP/BOOTP offers are made. What’s interesting is that a computer running an OS canboot and recieve an IP address. Thank you all in advance for your advice.
