CD Boot Disc

By nroberts ·
I am trying to create a bootable Window 98 boot disc. What I have in mind is we have several statewide offices and I plan on shipping each region a bootable 98 cd with ghost and an image installed. If they have problems with the OS they can simplyput in the CD, boot from it with CD support, type ghost and download a clean image. I realize I can create a bootable diskette with CD support, but I figured it's just one more thing they must keep up with. I have changed the boot options so that the HD is last, but for some reason the system doesn't see the bootable system files on theCD.

I created a boot diskette, dragged and dropped those files to a directory on C:. Then used Adaptec Easy Creator to burn the 98 boot files, ghost and the image unto the CD. All went well with the copy except the disc will not boot

When coping the 98 boot files from the C: to a floppy, the diskette will not boot on any machine. If I perform a diskcopy the diskette will boot. Is there an issuewith the attributes

First
take a floppy
go to dos prompt
type format a: /s
before you copy files make sure that you can see hidden files.
goto view
folder options
view tab
and make sure it has show all files

copy all files to directory for cd
copy your image
copy your ghost.exe

go into cd creator and select all in directory (not the directory)

and that should work

make sure system files are in the root directory!!!

First of all you must check if your pc is able to boot from CD.
Set bios boot option to CD. I' don't know if you mean this by saying "so that the HD is last". You simply should select boot from "CD" in bios. Old bioses cannot boot from cd. Beware that scsi CD must be configured by scsi adapter to be bootable unit (by default they are not).

Second: make sure you selected "ISO9660" file system in EasyCD. I've noticed that 3.5 version lies about creating a bootable cd if not. Be sure to selectFloppy emulation.

Third: if your cd is not bootable on any pc, please try Nero Burning Rom (www.ahead.de for a trial version) to be sure isn't a mastering software failure (with nero you can select long names filesystem too).

I've done severalCD like yours (I'm using driveimage, but ghost should be fine too) and it just works :-)

Feel free to contact me.

i suggest to use nero burning rom and to make a image file from the boot disk - now in burning rom you simply have to tell which image file to use and all is done
