CD control in Win 2000

By wordmaster1 ·
In 98 you can go into device manager and it is very simple to stop your CD ROM from automatically starting a CD that is loaded. How do you do this in 2000? Thank you.

Instead of from Device Manager, open either My Computer, or Windows Explorer, and right click on the CD drive.

Choose Properties.

Click on the Auto-Run tab.

1. Go to Start\Run and type Regedit.
2. Expand the following tabs...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

3. Double click on AutoRun and give the value data as 1 instead of 0

Unfortunately, Windows 2000 doesn't have a nice toggle to permanently disable autorun like Win 9x, you have to do a little registry editing instead.
1.Run regedit
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom and set the autorun value to 0 to disable autorun, or 1 to re-enable it.

If the entry is not there, create a key

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
Name: Autorun
Data Type: REG_DWORD(Hex)
Value: 0

Thanks & Regards
Rony
